Although described as a guide to copyright issues of multimedia projects in the Chronicle of Higher Education, the article, “Copying Right and Copying Wrong with Web 2.0 Tools in the Teacher Education and Communications Classrooms“, written by Ewa and J. Patrick McGrail is better described as a clear overview of basic copyright issues associated with using media in educational settings in a Web 2.0 world. Additionally, the authors present and discuss scenarios they use to educate their students on the appropriate use of media-based copyrighted materials for class assignments. There is no easy solution regarding the educational use of media-based content in coursework, but this article highlights and explains important concepts — TEACH Act, Fair Use, Transformative Use, and Creative Commons — all of which have a significant impact on the use of media for educational purposes in a Web 2.0 world by a Web 2.0 generation of students.
