ETD Resources from University of Alabama

At the ETD 2010 Symposium in Austin, I attended a session  where the University of Alabama shared their experience deploying an ETD program on campus in 2009. The deployment occurred over 3 semesters, beginning with the approval of the University of Alabama Graduate Council on April 23, 2008 (see ETD Report and Recommendations). On August 15, 2009, ETD submission became mandatory. UA utilizes the ProQuest Administrator tool for submission, and ProQuest later provides the metadata back to UA for cataloging purposes. The ETDs are also made available through the UA University Libraries digital collections. The session prompted me to visit the University of Alabama website, where I uncovered several interesting and helpful resources. In addition to browsing their website, I also encourage you to consider reviewing the videos available from their site. One of these, is a video archive of a talk given by the graduate school about the new ETD program.  Also you may wish to see this April 1, 2009, announcement regarding the ETD experience at UA.

  1. This is extremely helpful for those of us who are moving at glacial speed to include more programs/ departments to our list of Vireo users, Laura. Thanks so much for sending this out to us.

I’m always so amazed at the resources I find on the web to help us all improve how we approach our ETD programs, whether we are seasoned veterans or just getting started. I’m so glad this was helpful. Laura
